An American-born performer devoted to the authentic traditions of Egypt, Taj has dedicated her career to presenting the depth, refinement, and cultural heritage of Egyptian dance to audiences around the world.

Born into a family of Greek and Egyptian heritage, Taj began her early training in ballet before discovering Middle Eastern dance in childhood. Her passion for the art form led her to pursue advanced study with some of the most respected master teachers of Egyptian dance, including renowned choreographers Mahmoud Reda, Raqia Hassan, and Mohamed Geddawi of the celebrated Reda Troupe.

Taj’s career has taken her across international stages and cultural venues throughout the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. She has performed under contract in Egypt and other parts of the region, appearing in prestigious venues and presenting the classical Egyptian style to audiences that have included dignitaries, cultural leaders, and members of Middle Eastern royalty.

Beyond the stage, Taj is deeply committed to cultural education. Through her Egyptian cultural program Journey Down the Nile, she presents a multimedia exploration of Egypt’s regional dances, combining live performance with historical context and film to illuminate the traditions behind the art. The program highlights Egypt’s musical heritage and the evolution of its dance traditions while celebrating the powerful female figures of ancient history, including portrayals of Cleopatra and Queen Nefertiti.

Her work emphasizes the elegance and authenticity of the classical Egyptian style, focusing on musical interpretation, expressive artistry, and the cultural meaning behind each dance. In addition to live performances, Taj has also produced educational film work exploring both ancient and modern Egyptian dance traditions.

Through performance, choreography, and cultural presentation, Layla Taj continues to share the beauty of Egyptian artistic traditions with international audiences, bringing the spirit, history, and music of Egypt to the stage.
